Adam Driver Talks About Being Involved In 'Star Wars' For Six Years

We're still close to a year away from the release of Star Wars Episode IX in theaters, which will bring to an end the sequel trilogy.  Throughout the next year we can likely expect to hear from many of the cast members, especially those that have been involved since the beginning, reflecting on their time in the galaxy far, far away.  That's just what Adam Driver did during a new interview with Deadline, where he reflected on the six years he spent playing Kylo Ren.

Driver compared his experience working on Star Wars with working in theater (as well as other one-and-done films), and revealed that he's known one thing about Kylo Ren's future since he began playing the character.  He told Deadline,

With Star Wars, I had one piece of information of where it was all going, and that’s where it has been in my head for a long time, and things were building towards that. It feels very theatrical, if anything. Because in the plays that I’ve done, a six-month run, on the very last day, you finally feel like, “Oh, now I have a better understanding of what it is that I want to do. I wish we could do this all over again.” Working on a play, the questions you can ask yourself are infinite, and that’s what’s torturous about film sometimes – you only have one shot to get it right. And you can do a lot of takes, but we’re not all going to get back together again and do this. But for something you’re doing for six years, you still have a chance to go back and make something a little bit more articulated.

Of course, the major question that comes out of the interview is: what is that piece of information that Driver's known since the beginning?  We'll likely learn after Episode IX is released, but in the meantime you know fans will speculate.

Star Wars Episode IX hit theaters on December 20th, 2019.  The film is directed by JJ Abrams, with a script by Abrams and Chris Terio.  The film stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Kelly Marie Tran, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant, Naomi Ackie, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie Fisher.
