Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a film that's seemingly been on everyone's minds recently, despite us quickly approaching the second anniversary of its release. We recently learned that one of the main characters of Rogue One, Cassian Andor, will be starring in his own TV series on Disney+. One of the most exciting aspects of this new series is that Diego Luna, who portrayed Andor in Rogue One, will be returning to reprise the role.
Aside from a seemingly limitless amount of potential cameos that have been discussed for the Cassian series, fans have also speculated about which other characters, and the actors behind them, might make an unexpected comeback in the future. Now we have learned that another Rogue One star is also ready to return to a Galaxy far, far away.
Just recently, Variety has released a new episode of their web series "Actors On Actors" which features Crazy Rich Asians star Constance Wu being interviewed by Felicity Jones, who's best know to Star Wars fans as Rogue One's Jyn Erso. At one point Jones asks Wu how she would feel about the possibility of joining the Star Wars universe, saying “we would love to have you”.
Wu explains that she probably would not be interested in Star Wars because she wants to avoid long term, multi-film commitments:
“I want to take roles that challenge me in different ways every year... I’m ready for something new, so thinking about that makes me feel like it’s golden shackles.”
Wu then passes the question back to Felicity Jones who gives an intriguing answer:
"I was very fortunate in some respects that it was a one-off, so we very much explored that. But I loved playing that character, so I actually, in a opposite way, I would really like to have a little more consistency and bring Jyn back. I would actually like that for a couple of years, just to have a little bit of that stability."
The idea of getting more stories with Jyn Erso in the future is a tantalizing idea, and the fact that Felicity Jones herself might be on board is very cool. I think it's safe to say a great many Star Wars fans would be very much interested in revisiting that character, before the events of Rogue One, of course. While a cameo in the Cassian Andor series seems unlikely, there's always the possibility of her showing up in other productions, or even having a TV series of her own.
If Felicity Jones did return to the role of Jyn Erso one day, where would you like her to appear, and what aspect of her character should be explored? Let us know your ideas in the comments below!
