Despite the fact that it has been filming for over a month, there has been no official casting news about Star Wars: The Mandalorian, the upcoming live action streaming series coming to Disney+ next year. As a result, all casting news must still be classified as a rumor, though it seems we may have a pretty cool trio of actors starring in the series with Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, and now Carl Weathers. The report of Weathers' involvement in comes from MakingStarWars.net, who sources tell them that the actor has already filmed scenes for The Mandalorian.
Weathers has had a lengthy career, and was one of the biggest action stars in the 1980s, starring in the Rocky and Predator series. He has also shown that he has great comedic abilities with appearing in the 1996 film Happy Gilmore and the TV sitcom Arrested Development in a recurring role as "himself".
MSW sources further confirm Carl Weathers is in Star Wars: The Mandalorian. #StarWars #TheMandalorian https://t.co/oCdWRU6NW2 pic.twitter.com/zyAfCUL3Am— Jason Ward (@MakingStarWars) November 26, 2018
Despite the lack of official casting announcements filming on The Mandalorian has been underway since October. The episodes are written by executive producer Jon Favreau and directed by Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow (Better Call Saul), and Rick Famuyiwa (Dope).
The Mandalorian is set following the events of Return of the Jedi and follows the adventures of a "lone gunfighter"
as he navigates the galaxy in the post-Empire/early days of the New
Republic. The series' first season is expected to be eight episodes.
The series is executive produced by Favreau and Filoni, as well as Colin
Wilson and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
