A Picture Of Young Luke Skywalker From A 'The Force Awakens' Deleted Scene Has Made Its Way Online

Back in the lead up to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, rumors swirled online that a scene featuring a young Luke Skywalker would be included in the film, specifically a flashback to Luke's duel with Vader on Cloud City in Rey's "Forceback" vision.  Ultimately the scene never appeared in the film, but now, almost three years after the film's release, a behind the scenes picture of actor Robert Boulter as young Luke in The Force Awakens has made its way online via the r/BothanSpies subreddit.  Check it out for yourself below,

A connection to this cut moment is still seen in the movie, with the first bit of Rey's vision taking place in the hallway on Cloud City where part of the famous duel took place.  You can see the final version of the "Forceback" below,

The Force Awakens editor Maryann Brandon spoke about what was cut from the sequence in an interview in July 2016, saying,

"She went into this room and then it became the room in Cloud City, which you can still kind of see because we still kept that idea, but then she used to walk down the hall and she saw Darth Vader and Luke fighting. And she saw Darth Vader cut Luke’s hand off. Then she turned around and saw Snoke, or some version of Snoke, vague version of him and a little boy. So all those images we had, they just didn’t have a logic that satisfied anyone enough."

Hopefully, one day we'll get to see all the cut material from the original version of the "Forceback" sequence, including the Luke and Vader moment. But for now, we can look at this picture and imagine what might have been.
