Hype is building for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, the currently under-construction 14-acre Star Wars-themed land that will be opening at Disneyland and World next year. While various teases and spy photos have given us an idea of what the massive attraction will be like, a new reveal from Entertainment Weekly today has given us our best look yet at Galaxy's Edge.
Last night EW's Anthony Breznican teased on Twitter that something big was coming, and today he delivered on that promise. First off, Breznican officially announced that the legendary John Williams will be using his musical talents to contribute to the experience of Galaxy's Edge. Williams has composed a brand new musical theme for the area, which will undoubtedly become the soundtrack of everyone's experience at Galaxy's Edge.
Included with the announcement is a video showing the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios recording the score for Galaxy's Edge, which is conducted by William Ross, a longtime collaborator with John Williams. The video is intercut with footage of a flyover of the Galaxy's Edge construction site, showing the incredible progress that's been made on the attraction. You can check out the video below:
Next up, Breznican also unveiled an interesting tidbit about the Star Wars-themed hotel that is planned extension of Galaxy's Edge at Walt Disney World in Florida. To further immerse visitors in the Star Wars universe, getting to the hotel will require guest to board a "shuttle pod" that will transport them to their accommodations in space aboard a luxury starship in orbit. Two new pieces of concept art gives us an idea what the experience will be like:
And last, but certainly not least, EW revealed the two major rides that will be featured at Galaxy's Edge, which have been rumored and speculated about for a long time. Now we have our first official looks at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise Of The Resistance courtesy of some exciting new videos.
Smugglers Run puts riders in the cockpit of the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy, as each person can take on one of three duties to help pilot the Falcon as it escapes Batuu. In the video below, you can see both the interior and exterior of the Millennium Falcon that will be featured at Galaxy's Edge:
Rise Of The Resistance places you in the heart of an intense battle between the First Order and the Resistance aboard a First Order Star Destroyer. The video for the ride was actually filmed within a finished interior of the ride and gives us a a tantalizing glimpse at what we'll experience while riding:
It should also be noted that the videos confirm that Galaxy's Edge will open at Disneyland in California in "Summer 2019" and at Walt Disney World in "Fall 2019". Although not exact dates, it's as close as we've gotten to opening dates that we've gotten so far.
