Work on the upcoming live action Star Wars series from writer
and executive producer Jon Favreau is underway, with filming expected to
begin this week. Even as more details about the series start to make their way online, there
is still a lot we don't know about the series, such as the cast. Now, thanks to a new report from Jason Ward of MakingStarWars.net, we may know who is playing the lead character in the series.
MSW reports that Game of Thrones and Narcos star Pedro Pascal is being referred to as the lead actor in the series, which will debut on the upcoming Disney direct to consumer streaming service. In addition to his roles as Oberyn Martell on Game of Thrones and Javier Pena on Narcos, Pascal's previous roles in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, The Good Wife, and the upcoming film Wonder Woman 1984.
If true, Pascal would be the latest in a long line of people to make the jump from Game of Thrones to Star Wars, following in the footsteps of Emilia Clarke (Solo), Gwendoline Christie (The Last Jedi), and Jessica Henwick (The Force Awakens), as well as Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss who are currently developing a new series of Star Wars films.
Favreau's live action series is rumored to tell the story of the reconstruction of Mandalore following the events of Return of the Jedi. In addition to Favreau, it was recently reported that Star Wars: The Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni will direct two episodes of the eight episode first season. Filming is rumored to begin this week and some early set pictures can be seen here.
As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.
