If yesterday's tease about The Mandalorian got you hyped, that was just the tip of the ice berg! Lucasfilm has now officially weighed in on the upcoming live-action Star Wars series and given us a whole lot more to talk about.
First off, on StarWars.com they confirmed that production is now currently underway, with writer and executive producer Jon Favreau taking the helm. In addition, they also revealed the first image from the series! It shows a brand new, unknown figure in Mandalorian armor walking in a marketplace that looks very much like Tatooine (and seems to match those leaked set photos):
Along with that, they also revealed a list of directors that will be taking on directing duties for the individual episodes. They confirm that Dave Filoni, who previously helped create Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and Star Wars Resistance, will direct the first episode of the first season. Additionally, Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones) will also come aboard to direct episodes of their own. The series will be executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson, and co-executive produced by Karen Gilchrist.
The Mandalorian will premiere next year on Disney's upcoming streaming service. The synopsis for the series is as follows:
"After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic..."
