This first Solo scene should have been n there. A friend of mine who was very down on the film had no idea that disciplinary stuff was gonna be in the film, and yet when we reviewed it he said if there had been a scene of Han messing up and getting kicked it would have fixed a lot of stuff for him. Once he now saw this he was like "yup would have liked the film a lot more". Honestly inclined to agree

Like we all feel that it is easy to infer that Han got kicked out for something like this, but said friend is a films only fan of the franchise and he did not feel it was shown properly. On the point of Han quipping a bit to much, I think this works cause Han seems legit afraid and so the quips come off more like he is running his mouth more than trying to dismantle the Commodore. That and he actually does get shut down which I think really effectively works with Han still growing his confidence, so he is able to do those brash things, but he cannot actually portray a sense of being secure in doing said things

I mean to be fair the Kobayashi maru does cause actual injuries. Gotta have those standard starfleet exploding consoles

Thanks for including listener feedback btw. On the point about people getting caught up on what is canon, and saying thing are not canon to them if they dislike it, I see people say that about stuff like FOD and Freemakers. I am not a massive fan of either, but when people say "thank god they are not canon" I don't get that. Like their worth is not any less cause they are not canon, same goes for legends stories. I see people treat canon is invalid cause they prefer legends, but I also see people crap on all of legends for cherry picked bad stuff like the Jedi Prince books. canon does mean a lot, and I think is vital, but so long as the stories we like interact in some way with other stories it is fine. Legends is a whole universe with imo just as valid a world built around the movies as the world the new films have built around the movies. Even stuff that was never fully canon still build of the same source and so if when you watch ANH and n your head you see that red droid with the bad motivator as being the non-Legends star wars tales story that is valid in terms of your viewing experience, if you see it as being sabotaged by Artoo like in Legends what that gives your viewing is yours alone and that's great, and if you go with the version that is still being built upon from FACPOV which pulls from legends and adds some stuff somewhat akin to another legends source while creating something different that is valid. going with the flow is great, and so is sticking to your specific read that makes things flow best for you.

I love how there is nothing to indicate Boba having a showdown with Maul that causes him to lose his hold on the crime syndicates, and yet all of us treat it as an inevitability.
