Lucasfilm and Entertainment Weekly released a new video today introducing many of the main characters on Star Wars Resistance, known collectively as Team Fireball. The video features interviews with series stars Christopher Sean (Kazuda Xiono), Scott Lawrence (Jarek Yeager), Suzie McGrath (Tam Ryvora), and Josh Brenner (Neeku), as well as several key members of the crew including series creator Dave Filoni, Executive Producer Athena Portillo, Supervising Director Justin Ridge, and Head Writer Brandon Auman. Check it out below,
Star Wars Resistance, which premieres on October 7th at 10pm on the Disney Channel, tells the story of Resistance spy Kazuda Xiono and his adventures reporting on the First Order while undercover as a racer. The series will feature Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie, reprising their roles from the films, as Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma, respectively. Rachel Butera will also provide the voice of General Leia, while Donald Faison plays Hype Fazon, Jim Rash plays Flex, Bobby Moynihan plays Orka, and Myrna Velasco plays Torra Doza.
The video features many new clips and shots from the series, including our first proper look at the First Order character in the red armor that was spotted in the series art that was shown at a Disney conference in France last month. The character appears to be some kind of pilot, so perhaps we'll see them facing off with Kaz and the rest of Team Fireball in a race.
The video also really makes a point of letting audiences know that this series will be more aimed at younger viewers than previous animated Star Wars projects like Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. They also seem to be setting expectations in check about the ground that the series will cover. One of the first things said in the video is series creator Dave Filoni saying, "They're not caught up in the bigger things going on in the galaxy." So don't expect Resistance to explore in any depth the nature of the geopolitical landscape of the sequel era, with the First Order on the rise, the New Republic in denial about the threat, and the circumstances that led to the formation of the Resistance (for that, read Bloodline by Claudia Gray). Instead, expect a fun racing show with likable characters and cool visuals that is great for families to watch together.
