Principal photography for Star Wars: Episode IX is now fully underway(as we've seen evidence of) and excitement is building, even though it's still more than a year away from release. Over the past several weeks we've learned of multiple new cast members that will be joining the production, one of which is Kerri Russel in an undisclosed role. Episode IX will see Russel reunite with J.J. Abrams, whom she previously worked with on the TV series Felicity, as well as the film Mission: Impossible III.
In a recent interview with Deadline conducted shortly after filming scenes for Episode IX, Russel spoke briefly about collaborating with Abrams once more on Star Wars:
“It is just so much more fun to work with someone that you like so much... I mean, we see each other and then we talk nonstop and fill in all the details of the past years, and you know, it’s just nice when you have that kind of fun and history with someone. It makes it all that much more enjoyable. When J.J. calls so unexpectedly, cool things happen.”

Kerri Russel will star alongside Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Kelly Marie Tran, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Richard E. Grant, Naomi Ackie, Dominic Monaghan, Anthony Daniels, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, and Carrie Fisher. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams, with a script by Abrams and Chris Terio. Star Wars Episode IX hit theaters on December 20th, 2019.
