Marvel comics announced today that the Star Wars: Poe Dameron ongoing comic book series will be coming to an end in September. The series, which kicked off in April 2016, mainly focused on Poe's adventures leading up to the events of The Force Awakens--specifically the search for Lor San Tekka. More recently the series had shifted to telling the story of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi from the point of view of Poe and his friends in Black Squadron (with some fun interludes set on the Millennium Falcon after the Battle of Crait featuring Rey, Finn, and Poe all together).
The series end was revealed in Marvel's September solicitations, which featured the description for Issue #31. The description reads,
"In this final chapter of the POE DAMERON series, we see what may be
BLACK SQUADRON’S last mission, as they desperately attempt to find
allies for GENERAL LEIA ORGANA’S decimated RESISTANCE.
It’s been one heck of a ride, but all stories must come to an end."
The series' author, Charles Soule commented on the announcement on Twitter,
I love it too, but Poe's concluding at the right time. Lots of great Star Wars stuff coming down the pipe, though. Never fear. https://t.co/eVDcIUwKAS— Charles Soule (@CharlesSoule) June 20, 2018
Yeah, it's ending. There's a weird conflation between "cancelled" and "ending" - they aren't the same thing. Sometimes it's for sales, sometimes it's story, sometimes other things. This is about the story ending in a nice, tidy place based on everything else happening in SW.— Charles Soule (@CharlesSoule) June 19, 2018
Me too - but it's ending in the right place.— Charles Soule (@CharlesSoule) June 19, 2018
Soule will continue to contribute to the Star Wars galaxy with his work on the ongoing Star Wars: Darth Vader series.
Star Wars: Poe Dameron #28 hits store shelves this week. Issues will be released monthly leading up to the final issue (#31) on September 26th.
