Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters next month, and the promotional campaign for the film is just beginning to kick off. As usual, Lucasfilm has partnered with a number of companies in order to spread the word about Solo, and with that comes tons of great promotional material. Earlier this week Denny's unveiled their massive Solo promotional campaign, and today a TV spot from another company is raising some eyebrows.
Star Wars News Net spotted a car commercial from French automaker Renault that is heavily inspired by Solo: A Star Wars Story. The ad features a mother and son in a car that drives into the midst of a Solo action sequence. In the video we see Chewbacca on top of the Conveyex being perused by Cloud-Rider gang members on speeder bikes, who are later dispatched thanks to a surprise appearance by the Millennium Falcon. You can watch the ad in full below:
While this is obviously not a real scene from the film, it does appear to resemble an actual sequence that will be in the film. In the very first teaser for Solo (below), the Conveyex can be seen for a brief moment, and Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson) can be seen fighting Cloud-Rider leader Enfys Nest atop the massive train. Various Solo promotional and tertiary material has pointed to Han and Chewie being involved in a train heist on the planet Vandor. Getting a taste of the action in this ad was a real treat!
Alden Ehrenreich (Hail Caesar!) stars as Han Solo alongside Joonas Suotamo (The Last Jedi) as Chewbacca, Donald Glover (Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) as Qi'Ra, Woody Harrelson (True Detective) as Beckett, Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) as L3-37, Thandie Newton (Westworld) as Val, and Paul Bettany (The Avengers) as Dryden Vos. The film is directed by Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind), with a script by Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back) and his son Jon Kasdan (The First Time). Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on May 25th!
