Empire Reveals New Images From 'Solo: A Star Wars Story'

Two new still images from the upcoming film Solo: A Star Wars Story were released today by Empire Magazine.  One features Alden Ehrenreich as Han hanging on to a cable outside the Conveyex train seen in the trailers.  The other gives us another look at Paul Bettany's character Dryden Vos.  What's more interesting about the Vos picture, however, is what's in the background.  It appears Vos is standing in front of a suit of Mandalorian armor.  Check out the pictures below,

It's not clear whether the Mandalorian armor suit in the picture is being worn by somebody or whether it's a display.  The design on the armor looks to be somewhat different than the Mandalorian armor we're used to seeing on Boba and Jango Fett, as well as in the animated series Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars.  This has led some to speculate that it could be some sort of ancient Mandalorian armor, from long before the Clone Wars, which would support the idea that it's probably a display of some kind.  The location of the armor appears to be the same place where we see Qi'Ra at some sort of fancy party in the trailers.  It wouldn't be a stretch to think that a piece of galactic history would be featured at a gathering of wealthy people.

There's also the possibility that the armor belongs to Vos, however this seems unlikely given that this role was originally played by Michael K. Williams and he has described his version of the character as being a "half-mountain lion" character.  Williams couldn't return to the film for the massive reshoots after Ron Howard took over as director from Phil Lord and Chris Miller.  There's always the possibility that one of the changes Howard made was to make Vos a Mandalorian, but that seems like a long shot since we haven't had actually seen any indication that Bettany ever wears the armor.

You can see the Solo Empire cover and read what co-writer Jon Kasdan has to say about the action sequences in the film here.

Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on May 25th, 2018 and stars Alden Ehrenreich (Hail Caesar!) as Han Solo, Donald Glover (Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Woody Harrelson (True Detective), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Thandie Newton (Westworld), and Paul Bettany (The Avengers).  The film is directed by Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind), with a script by Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back) and his son Jon Kasdan (The First Time).
