John Williams will finish what he started. The legendary composer who wrote the score for all eight episodic Star Wars film beginning in 1977 and continuing all the way through 2017's The Last Jedi, confirmed to Variety that he will return to write the musical soundtrack for 2019's Star Wars Episode IX. Williams will team up with director JJ Abrams once again, having previously worked with Abrams on 2015's The Force Awakens, to complete the sequel trilogy.
"As for his future with “Star Wars” movies, Williams confirms that he
told director J.J. Abrams that he will do Episode IX next year. “I would
very much like to complete that,” he says."
Before he begins work on Episode IX, however, Williams will be working on a new theme for Han Solo that will be used in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story, which hits theaters in May. Williams will compose the theme and then pass it along to composer John Powell who will write the rest of the score.
Star Wars Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
