Empire Magazine has a new issue featuring Star Wars: The Last Jedi hitting newsstands this Thursday.  The new issue will contain an eight page spread about the new film, including an interview with writer/director Rian Johnson.  In advance of this new issue, Empire has revealed both the cover of the issue (featuring Rey and Luke) and some cool details about Poe Dameron's upgraded X-Wing that we'll see in the new film.

In The Last Jedi Poe will still be flying his iconic black X-Wing but it will have had some work done since the battle of Starkiller Base.  According to Empire,

"The X-Wing (an Incom-FreiTek T-70, to be precise) has, according to Rian Johnson, been specially modified by Resistance engineers, with a temporary accelerator pod affixed to the aft section. According to The Last Jedi director, the pod, when primed, increases Dameron's speed, allowing him to outrun First Order cannon emplacements. It's just a temporary boost and will burn out quickly but it's enough to get beyond the barrage of turbo laser fire from First Order Star Destroyers such as the one depicted in the image."

As for the cover, you can see that below,

While the image alone looks cool, Empire says the cover must be seen in person to appreciate the fact that its entirely holographic.  According to Empire's website,

"What can't be fully translated over the internet is that this cover is entirely holographic, making it an instant collector's edition. We've given the image a bit of a sheen here to give you an idea, but trust us – nothing quite beats seeing this cover in real life. It is, to paraphrase an old Jedi, an elegant cover for a more civilised age."

This issue of Empire Magazine will be available as of September 7th.
