Details about the still untitled Han Solo film have been sparse lately, but a new report from our friends at Making Star Wars may have just revealed some significant character names. Of course, if you do not wish to know anything about the Han Solo film, you may want to exercise caution before reading further. This one deserves a light SPOILER alert.
Making Star Wars' Jason Ward reports that he has uncovered the names of two characters that will have major roles in the film. The first is named "Mother Proxima", who he explains is most likely a puppet:
"The character is operated by Dave Chapman. Chapman is known to the Star Wars crowd as the one of the two BB-8 operators from The Force Awakens. There is always a chance Chapman is operating the character but Mother Proxima will be voiced by one of the actors we’ve heard that has been cast in the film."
The second name revealed is simply "Val", which belongs to an unknown female character. Jason elaborates:
"I have now received several reports that the name “Val” was used at Pinewood and that Val had some sequence involving stunts so there will be action around this character. The strangeness of the situation is that that no one will confirm who Val is to me at this point. However, I heard that Val has “top billing” and that makes me think it could be none other than Emilia Clarke’s character. That said it could Phoebe Waller-Bridge or Thandie Newton character’s too."
Even though Making Star Wars has a solid track record on scoops, this should be considered a rumor until officially confirmed by Lucasfilm. Even if the names are legitimate, they could be code names. For example, during the production of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the name "Kira" was heavily rumored to be the name of Daisy Ridley's character, but it turned out to be a code name for Rey. We'll have to wait and see what becomes of Val and Mother Proxima
The untitled Han Solo film is due for release May 25th, 2018 and stars Alden Ahrenreich as Han Solo, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissan, and Woody Harrelson as Beckett, among others.
