Dennis Murren, Phil Tippett, Richard Edlund and Ken Ralston received a Special Achievement Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for their work on Star Wars: Return of the Jedi at the 56th Academy Awards.

The film had been nominated for five Oscars: Best Sound Editing, Best Original Music Score, Best Sound Mixing and Best Production Design.


The only award that the film won was the Special Achievement award for Best Visual Effects.
