It had previously been reported that already-existing footage of Carrie Fisher would be used for her to appear in the untitled Star Wars Episode IX. In a recent interview with Good Morning America, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy clarified the direction they are taking by saying: "Sadly, Carrie will not be in IX."
Todd Fisher, Carrie's brother, had previously said unused footage from previous movies would be used to help bridge the gap his sister left behind. You can catch the entire interview with Kennedy below:
