This week on "Throwback Thursday(TBT)" we're going way back, almost as far back as you can go, to 1977. With just a few months left until the 40th anniversary of the release of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, this is the perfect time for a throwback like this.
Getting to experience a new Star Wars film with a crowd can be an incredibly exciting and moving experience. It's impossible not join in on the cheering, laughing, and even crying that happens during the biggest moments of each film. In this throwback, we get to hear an audience react to the very first Star Wars film.
YouTube user William Forsche has shared a video which includes a recording of an audience's reaction to A New Hope during an original screening of the film back in 1977. Apparently Forsche managed to sneak a tape recorder into the theater when his Mother took him to see "Star Wars" for the second time. The recording is fascinating to hear as it includes reactions to several major moments in A New Hope:
Among the big scenes that are captured in audio form are the moments before and after the Death Star is destroyed, and the very end of the film. YouTuber Homer Thompson made the special effort to match the audio with footage from the theatrical version of A New Hope. In his video, you can watch along with the audience as you hear them react:
