When the new mid season trailer for Season Three of Star Wars Rebels was released earlier today, the moment that had everybody talking was the final shots of the trailer featuring Darth Maul confronting Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine. Not only did we see a preview for the latest round of Maul v. Kenobi, which begun in The Phantom Menace and continued through Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but we also got our first look at an animated version of Alec Guiness' Old Ben. But the question was raised, who will be voicing Kenobi?
The answer is a familiar one: Stephen Stanton. Stanton has lent his voice to many Star Wars characters in the past, with the most recent being Admiral Raddus in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The news was confirmed by Lucasfilm animation to ComicBook.com's Lucas Siegel. Stanton has lent his voice to several other characters on Rebels, including Grand Moff Tarkin and the droid AP-5. He also voiced several characters on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, including Tarkin, Col. Meebur Gascon, and Moralo Eval.
Stanton is the second actor to portray Obi-Wan on Rebels. James Arnold Taylor, who voiced Kenobi on The Clone Wars, voiced Kenobi in the first episode of the series, "Spark of Rebellion". This is not the first time Stanton has provided the voice of Old Ben, having previously lent his voice to the character in the video games Disney Infinity and Star Wars: Empire at War. He also played Old Ben on screen in the fan film Pink Five Strikes Back.
Stephen is a friend of ours here at The SWU, so we wish to extend our congratulations to Stephen on this cool, new role!
