One of the many things that caught everyone off guard in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was the inclusion of Rebel Starfighter pilots from Episode IV: A New Hope. During the climactic space battle above Scarif near the end of the film, the familiar faces and voices of "Red Leader", Garven Dreis, and "Gold Leader", Jon "Dutch" Vander, are included in the spectacular sequence.
To make the cameos possible, the filmmakers behind Rogue One utilized unused footage and dialogue from A New Hope of both Drewe Henley and Angus MacInnes, who played Red and Gold leaders, respectively. While Henley sadly passed away in February of 2016, MacInnes was able return and lend his voice to Gold Leader in Rogue One.
Our good friend Jamie Stangroom caught up with Angus MacInnes in a new video and get the low down on his surprising return to Star Wars. In the video, MacInnes discusses his reaction to getting the call from Lucasfilm, his experience providing his voice, and later seeing himself on the big screen again.
