Report: 'Rogue One' Prequel Comic Book Series Cancelled

On a day when so much cool information about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which hits cinemas this December, was revealed, it's unfortunate that there is some bad news related to the film as well. ComicBook.com is reporting that the prequel comic book mini series that Marvel was going to publish in the lead up to the film has been cancelled.  The series had a low key announcement at the Diamond Retailer's Breakfast at C2E2 in Chicago in March, with no writer or artist (or any other details) revealed at the time.

"All previous orders for the book have been canceled by retailers, including Amazon, who sent out notices about the pre-orders no longer being able to be fulfilled."

This is disappointing news, I was really interested to see what film tie-in material would look like for a Star Wars film that is not The Force Awakens.  Because it was the first film of this new era, and so far ahead on the timeline from everything else, the tie-in material's connections to The Force Awakens had to be vague at best.  This meant the stories usually had to be set in eras that had little to do with the film (the one exception was to be the C-3PO one-shot from Marvel, but that was delayed until after the film).  With Rogue One being set in a more familiar era, it seemed like they would be able to avoid some of the same obstacles.  That being said, even with this cancellation, there is still Catalyst, the Rogue One prequel novel coming this fall, and that may shed some light into what we can expect from future tie-in material.
