John Boyega Talks 'Episode VIII', Kelly Marie Tran, Rian Johnson & More

John Boyega, who will reprise the role of Finn in the Star Wars: Episode VIII next year, recently attended the Cannes Film Festival and took home the Chopard Trophy. During the event Boyega spoke with the media about Episode VIII, first being interviewed by Variety and later talking with Vulture. In that interview he was asked a plethora of questions relating to Star Wars and gave some intriguing answers. We have selected some highlights below.

First, he was asked about one of his new co-stars, Kelly Marie Tran, whom Boyega proceeded to rave about:

"She’s great. She’s freaking great, and I love her. I freaking love her. She’s fantastic. Seriously. She’s changed a lot in terms of perspective on just chemistry and industry. She’s a real cool girl... she’s fully in the movie, she’s a great character, and I can’t wait for you guys to be introduced to her."

In addition, he was also asked about how it has been working with Rian Johnson on Episode VIII and how he differs from Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams:

"Rian is his own man. You can’t compare the two. They’re of the same ilk, creatively, both talented. But two different guys, man. I really, really dig Rian, to step in like that. I hope we get to work together on something in the future, because he’s got a great artistic eye. He’s not Hollywood at all. This is a big Hollywood blockbuster film, but you know what I’m saying, with him behind the energy, you don’t feel like you’re on a Hollywood set. You feel like you’re in the midst of friends and people who want to work on something creatively great."

You'll want to head over to Vulture and read the full interview, which includes John's funny response to a recent rumor about Tom Hardy possibly having a role in Episode VIII.

John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran will star alongside returning cast members Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill and Adam Driver, along with newcomers Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern. Star Wars: Episode VIII hits theaters on December 15th, 2017!
