Submissions for Lucasfilm's annual Star Wars fan film awards, which encourages fans to create their own Star Wars films, opened today on StarWars.com. The films will be reviewed by a panel of judges at Lucasfilm, who will then select the winning films. The winners will be announced during a special ceremony at Star Wars Celebration 2016, which takes place July 15th-17th in London, England. Submissions are open from now until April 24th. Lucasfilm also released a special video with The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams announcing the contest. Check it out below,

2. Best Animation
3. Best Non-Fiction
4. Spirit of Fandom
5. Best Comedy
6. Best Visual Effects
7. Audience Choice
The winning filmmakers will receive a commemorative trophy, as well as a Star Wars themed prize pack and a limited edition Star Wars concept art print signed by the artist. Lucasfilm has also released some helpful tips for the films, as well as some official Star Wars sound effects for filmmakers to use on StarWars.com
