Report: More Filming For 'The Force Awakens' Happening On Skellig Michael

It seems that reshoots for The Force Awakens may be happening later this year, and the cast & crew may be returning to a familiar location. Our friends at Everything Geek Podcast pointed us to a recent report by The Irish Times which claims that Lucasfilm and Disney could be in negotiations with the Irish Film board to return to the island of Skellig Michael, off the cost of Ireland, to film more scenes for Star Wars Episode VII.

Last year while principal photography for The Force Awakens was taking place, we received reports and even photos confirming that director J.J. Abrams, Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley, among others, had journeyed to the island to film some scenes. Now with the film well into post production, The Irish Times reports that a production team had visited the area several weeks prior. During their previous visit last year, the filmmakers caused controversy because of the delicate state of the island, which is a world heritage site home to a centuries old monastery and various birdlife. Environmentalists and archaeologists feared the crews could bring harm to the Island. Ecologists have reportedly now been assigned to conduct a study and monitor the production to ensure Skellig Michael's ecosystem is not impacted.

We all look forward to seeing what the island will be the setting for when Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens hits theaters December 18th!
