Speculation and rumors have been abound lately since the announcement that Josh Trank had left his position as director of the second Star Wars Anthology film. Various reports had unfortunately painted a grim picture of The Chronicle and Fantastic Four director and what has been going on behind the scenes. Thankfully Josh Trank himself has stepped forward to set the record straight on why he left Star Wars, among other things In an interview with the LA Times, Trank explains his decision to part ways with Lucasfilm:
“I knew that this was going to be questioned and it was going to come under skepticism as to why I left ‘Star Wars... And it was hard. It was the hardest decision I've ever had to make in my life." He continued, “I want to do something original after this because I’ve been living under public scrutiny, as you’ve seen, for the last four years of my life.... And it’s not healthy for me right now in my life. I want to do something that’s below the radar... I have a great relationship with everyone at Lucasfilm and with Kari Hart... And they all understood it because this whole experience for me has been very psychologically hard.”
Trank addressed many of the other allegations levied against him in the interview, including the 4Chan Q & A hoax that happened last week. Fantastic Four producer and writer, and Star Wars Rebels executive producer, Simon Kinberg was present for the interview and supported all of Trank's words.
