Take this one with a pinch of salt folks. A new report from The Heroic Universe suggests that Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens will be the first Star Wars film to feature a post credits scene. But that's not all, apparently the post credits scene will tie-in somehow to the first Star Wars Anthology film, Rogue one, which hits theaters in December 2016.
I'll be honest, I have a hard time believing this one. While it makes some sense seeing how Marvel Studios, another Disney property, has used post-credits scenes to great effect, I just don't think JJ Abrams or Kathleen Kennedy would allow the seventh film in the series to be the first one to do something like this. The really weird part of the report is that apparently this scene will tie into Rogue One. This makes very little sense as The Force Awakens takes place over thirty years after the events of Rogue One (which is set between Episodes III and IV).
I've been saying for a while that what Lucasfilm should do is debut the trailer for Rogue One after the credits of The Force Awakens. That way they can build hype for the first Anthology film and have the fun of showing a scene after the credits. Also, I'm not opposed to the Anthology films maybe having a post credits scene that could tie into a future Star Wars film. It would be easier to do with them as they wouldn't be breaking an almost forty year formula, plus they have the potential to be all over the timeline and could tie into future films that take place after them (for example Rogue One could have post credits scene that ties in somewhat to Episode VIII because it takes place before the sequel trilogy). This could help make the universe feel more connected. But as for a post-credits scene in The Force Awakens, I'm skeptical.
As always this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.
