It's no real surprise that Disney's $4.05 Billion franchise will be a big part of their bi-annual fan convention. But it's always nice to get confirmation. Disney confirmed that Star Wars will be a big part of the convention this week, along with Marvel, Pixar, and other Disney properties. D23 takes place at the Anaheim Convention Center (where Celebration was held last month) from August 14 to 16. Disney also promises that fans will get to see previews of these properties in Hall D23, aka Hall D at the convention center, aka what was the Celebration Stage at Celebration Anaheim.
I would not be surprised if we see the next trailer for Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens at D23. The timing makes sense. I expect Disney/Lucasfilm would want a trailer in theaters to coincide with the release of the toys on September 4th (aka Force Friday) and D23 is about three weeks before that. This would make D23 the ideal time to debut the trailer. It would be similar to what was done with this most recent trailer which was revealed at Celebration and then was released in theaters with Avengers: Age of Ultron, three weeks later.
Regardless, hopefully they have more than what they had two years ago at the last D23 when Disney Chairman Alan Horn was booed off stage for not revealing anything about the film. But you can bet that Disney has something very different in store seeing as, unlike 2013 when the film was still being written and cast, the film has wrapped production and is about half way through post production. If not a trailer, could D23 be the place we see the first full clip from The Force Awakens? I still think that's unlikely and that a trailer is the safest bet.
