Marvel's ongoing Star Wars comic series will be undergoing an artist change in issue #7. John Cassaday, who had been doing the art since the series began in January, will depart after issue #6 in June. While we don't know who will draw issue #7, though Marvel promises it will be someone "very special," Newsarama broke the story that Stuart Immonen will be drawing issue #8. Immonen has previously worked on several Marvel titles including New Avengers, All-New X-Men and Ultimate Spider-Man.
According Newsarama,
Although the cartoonist hasn't done any official work for the Star Wars franchise at either Marvel or the previous comics licensor Dark Horse, Immonen has done numerous illustrations featuring Star Wars
characters before. Immonen's interest in Star Wars as a fan went so far
as building a lightsaber prop with his son, as well as numerous LEGO
creations of various characters, vehicles, and locations from the Star Wars movies.
I have been really enjoying the Star Wars series, so I'm sorry to see Cassaday go, however I still look forward to seeing what Immonen will do with the series. I'm also very intrigued to see who this "very special guest artist" will be. That sounds like the kind of announcement that would be perfect for Star Wars Celebration (coming up this April 16th-19th in Anaheim, California).
