Rumor: Episodes VIII and IX to Focus on Luke and Leia?

By now you've probably heard about the massive hack that happened over at Sony revealing everything from the fact that Marvel Studios and Sony are working on a deal to have Spider Man join the Marvel Cinematic Universe to how much of a discount Community star Joel McHale asked for on a Sony TV after the show was cancelled. Turns out, there may have been a few nuggets of Star Wars info in the leaks as well!

Comic Book Movie is reporting that one of the leaked emails says that Rian Johnson's Star Wars Episodes VIII & IX will be Luke and Leia storylines!  According to Comic Book Movie,
"Another stolen Sony email from September 20, 2014 has surfaced online and this one has President of Production for Columbia Pictures Michael De Luca discussing Disney's Star Wars with Sony Pictures Entertainment co-Chairman Amy Pascal. In it, he says Johnson's VIII and IX will be "Luke and Leia" storylines."

Personally, I don't buy it for a second.  The sequel trilogy is about the new characters like Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), with the old cast playing supporting roles.  You can see that clear as day by watching the teaser.  I think that the Sony exec. in question likely heard that they will be important members of the story in the sequels (which I have no doubt they will be) and extrapolated that to mean that will be the stars of the new trilogy (which they aren't).

The one way I can see this working out this way is if the plan is to have each new film feature one of the old cast going on the journey we the new cast.  There have been reports that Harrison Ford role in The Force Awakens is significantly larger than the other returning cast.  Maybe Mark Hamill will have a larger role in Episode VIII and Carrie FIsher in Episode IX (or vice versa).

As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed or denied by Lucasfilm or Disney.
