Report: J.J Abrams Looking For Unknown Actors For Episode VII

We're only about a month away from the beginning of filming for Star Wars Episode VII. Some details have been revealed thus far, but a lot of huge questions about the film remain. One of those being; who will make up the cast? Aside from Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill & Carrie Fisher's almost guaranteed involvement, we know nothing concrete about the characters and who might play them.

Dominic Monaghan, who's most famous for his roles in J.J Abrams' Lost series, as well as The Lord Of The Rings, spoke with Andy Riesmeyer on Ora.Tv's Dweebcast, and the conversation started off with some Star Wars talk. Monaghan discussed his close relationship Abrams, and when asked if he'd privately lobbied for a role in Episode VII, he had this to say:

"We've talked a few times about it and he just said, 'look, we're putting together a cast of essentially unknowns, you know. We want to follow the kind of '77, [A] New Hope type cast.... We don't want to fall into that mistake of People going 'Oh, it's that guy from the thing!'"

You can watch the full interview here:

Last year while being interviewed at a movie premiere, he hinted about possibly being cast in Episode VII. These conversations with Abrams may have been what he was referencing.

Of course, this isn't official. But coming from Dominic, it means a lot. If this is indeed true, it means J.J Abrams and crew will be using the formula George Lucas employed with the original six Star Wars films by selecting unknown actors to take the lead in Episode VII. Abrams has been applauded before for his casting decisions in films such as Star Trek.

December 18th, 2015 can't come soon enough!
