Lucasfilm theme park division...I like the sound of that.
If there was any doubt that Lucasfilm/Disney want to integrate more Star Wars elements to the Disney Parks, I think we can put it to rest. Lucasfilm has named Patti Burke the executive producer of the theme parks division. Burke has had a twenty year career in both the film and theme park industries, including spending five years as Head of Production for Walt Disney Imagineering's Theme Park Productions division. Burke's appointment seems to solidify (in my mind at least) that we will be seeing more Star Wars theme park attractions in the next few years.
Her biography on the Lucasfilm website reads,
Patti Burke heads Lucasfilm’s Theme Park division. Her
eclectic career spans over 20 years, including time as a production
executive at Touchstone Pictures, and later, Head of Production for Walt
Disney Imagineering's Theme Park Productions division. During her
tenure, both Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney California Adventure
Park (featuring the hit ride Soarin’) were launched.
Following her work with Disney, she served as Head of Studio at PDI DreamWorks Animation in Silicon Valley.
In the past five years, Burke has completed consulting work for both Sony Imageworks and WDI in strategic operations and artistic development. Most recently, she oversaw concept development for DreamWorks Animation’s DreamCenter in Shanghai.
Burke currently resides with her husband in Mill Valley, where they raised their children Elizabeth and Sean, and has two Labradors.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from USC Cinematic Arts School.
On behalf of the SWU, I would like to welcome Ms. Burke to the Star Wars family! We can't wait to see what she has in store!
