With the announcement that Clone Wars will be "winding down", could supervising director Dave Filoni have already found his next job? TVLine has a very intriguing quote from Disney Channels Worldwide President Gary Marsh who says he is "working closely with LucasFilm, Kathleen Kennedy and director Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) to explore new Star Wars content for our platforms," and that more details will follow later this year!
This can be taken more than one way. Perhaps Disney is considering airing the Clone Wars "bonus content" as TV movies on their various channels. But the more intriguing speculation is that Filoni is working on the brand new animated series we were teased with in the announcement that Clone Wars was ending, earlier this week.
Personally I think this is the best move Disney can make regarding the new series. Dave Filoni is loved by fans everywhere and keeping him aboard would kill multiple birds with one stone. Not only do you get Filoni's intimate knowledge of the Star Wars galaxy, and its characters, which comes from working directly with George Lucas for so long, you also get someone who knows what it takes to produce a Star Wars series and someone who is already beloved by fans everywhere. The move could be a token from Disney in order to mend some of the bridges burned with the premature ending of The Clone Wars.
I feel that losing Filoni would be as big if not a bigger tragedy than losing the series, and can't say how excited I am at the prospect of him staying aboard!
