A rumor has been floating around the interweb ether for months now that just won’t seem to die. It seems that the Imagineers at Disneyland Paris have been working on plans to bring a “Star Wars Land” to the park by 2015 and although nothing has been “officially” announced as of yet, there are some interesting bits of buzz that deserve notice. When Imagineer Tim Delaney was working on designs for Discoveryland at Disneyland Paris (Tomorrowland in the U.S.) one of his concept drawings was a representation of a Star Wars themed land, which included a full-size Millennium Falcon and a half Death Star dome.
Unfortunately, none of the ideas represented in the illustration are part of current discussions, as they would prove too costly for a park that is already having financial difficulty. What is apparently being considered is converting the back section of Discoveryland into a mini Star Wars area, which, in addition to the upgrade of the Star Tours attraction, would include turning the Captain EO Theatre into a Star Wars Jedi Academy like the one at Disney Hollywood Studios in Florida.
But perhaps the most exciting idea swirling about is the conversion of the Pizza Planet restaurant into a full-scale recreation of the Mos Eisley Cantina.
All of these ideas are beyond exciting but, as I have said, they are purely speculation at this point and it has been impossible to confirm anything concrete. I would think that the investment would pay off for Disneyland Paris since it would be the exclusive home of a unique attraction that would certainly attract Star Wars fans from across the globe. If this plan does come to fruition and proves successful, perhaps the entirety of Discoveryland could be converted one day. Change that Buzz Lightyear atrocity to a landspeeder ride! Transform the Orbitron capsules into mini tie fighters and X-wings! These ARE the rides we’re looking for! Do or do not, there is no…sorry. I get carried away on occasion. I just hope this rumor becomes reality one day and I am sure you feel the same way. We’ll all just have to wait and see…
