Triple Force Friday, the official launch of merchandise relating to Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, The Mandalorian, and Jedi: Fallen Order, is just ten days away and the details of what will (and what won't) be happening are starting to come out.  Earlier today, we learned that Lucasfilm will be hosting a special live stream event on Thursday September 26th to unveil the products that will be available on October 4th (aka Triple Force Friday).  However, we have also learned today that the retailer Target will not be hosting "Midnight Madness" events for fans who want to buy their collectibles the minute the clock strikes 12:01am on Triple Force Friday.

Target Exclusive 'The Force Awakens' Blu-ray Packaging and Bonus Features Revealed

Yesterday we learned that Target would have an exclusive version of The Force Awakens on blu-ray, with an extra disc containing twenty minutes of extra bonus features.  Today, the pre-order page went live on Target.com and the details about the release were revealed, including what's on the bonus disc and the packaging for Target exclusive release.  According to Target.com, the release will include,

Collectible packaging, plus 20 minutes of exclusive bonus content, including a never-before-seen interview with Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, and a deeper look at the movie’s weaponry.

Check out the Target exclusive packaging below,

While the packaging and the bonus features seem cool, but I'm concerned by the fact that one retailer is getting an exclusive disc of bonus features.  We still don't know what will be on the other retailer exclusive versions (Best Buy, Wal Mart, Disney Store, ect.) and I would hate to see a situation like what occurred with Star Trek Into Darkness, where the Bonus Features were spread out across multiple different releases.  If that is the case, I worry that fans will be taken advantage and made to buy multiple versions of the film to get all the content.  Granted, we still don't know what the other retailers will do and if the Target release is the only one with extra bonus features then that's fine.  But it is concerning.

"Force Friday" is just over a week away and the retailers involved are getting ready to give Star Wars fans their first opportunity to buy Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens merchandise.  In addition to just selling the merchandise, Target stores have added a "Opening Crawl" style promotion for "Force Friday," specifically the midnight madness events, to their register belts.  Check out the image below,

I have to say, of all the "Force Friday" promotion we've seen thus far, this is by far the coolest.

Target and Lucasfilm Launch 'Share The Force' Initiative for Fans to Share Their Star Wars Memories

Everybody has a Star Wars memory and a new initiative from Target and Lucasfilm seeks to archive as many fan memories as possible.  Fans are being invited to share their memories on ShareTheForce.Target.com and to explore memories from other fans.  According to Target,

"The collection, which will include celebrity fans Minka Kelly, Chris Hardwick and Bobby Moynihan, will go on to be archived at Lucasfilm – becoming an everlasting example of how we’re all connected by the force.  Until now, no one has attempted to collect and capture memories from the 147 million Star Wars fans throughout the world, and Target is introducing a unique program to unite these generations of fans in a way that only Target can do."

You can check out some promo videos for "Share The Force" below,

This sounds like a fun campaign from Target and Lucasfilm.  I know from personal experience, that everyone has a Star Wars story, even if they aren't a huge Star Wars fan.  I love the idea of archiving fan memories to go in the Lucasfilm archives.  I hope that Lucasfilm finds a way to continue this idea, beyond their partnership with Target for "Force Friday."
