Video Review: 'Secrets Of The Empire'

This past weekend, while in New York for Comic Con, my friends Chris "Starrapter" Abbot, Teddy, and I went over to the Oculus near the World Trader Center to try out the Star Wars: Secrets Of The Empire virtual reality (VR) experience.  The experience was a was a collaboration between the ILMxLAB and The VOID, and can be played at The VOID locations across North America (full list here).  In the experience, you are a Rebel soldier on a secret mission to the planet Mustafar between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

Virtual reality fans rejoice! The ILMxLAB panel at San Diego Comic-Con concluded moments ago and our very own Dominic Jones was there to give us the lowdown on everything that was revealed.

The ILMxLAB team assembled to discuss all of their current and future projects, including Trials On Tatooine, Vader Immortal, Droid Repair Bay, Project Porg, Secrets Of The Empire, and more. They provided fascinating details about their innovative work, and teased what's coming in the future.

David S. Goyer and Diana Williams Talk 'Secrets of the Empire' on 'The Star Wars Show'

The end of 2017 saw the opening of Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire at Disney Springs in Orlando, Florida, a new hyper reality experience from ILMxLAB and The VOID.  Since then, locations have opened at Downtown Disney in Anaheim, California, and London, England, with new locations expected to open in Los Angeles and Las Vegas later this year.  The experience takes fans on an undercover mission as a rebel cell as the infiltrate the Empire, with the help of Rogue One fan favourite droid K-2SO (voiced by Alan Tudyk).

'The Last Jedi' and 'Secrets of the Empire' Nominated for VES Awards

The Star Wars films have always been celebrated for their achievements in the world of visual effects, and The Last Jedi is no different.  The nominations for the 16th annual Visual Effects Society Awards were announced yesterday and the most recent Star Wars film picked up four nominations.  In addition to The Last Jedi's nods, the ILMxLAB experience Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire picked up a nomination as well.  The Visual Effects Society Awards ceremony will be held on February 13th.

'Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire' Set to Open in Las Vegas in 2018

Another location where fans can experience Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, the location based, virtual reality experience from ILMxLAB and The Void has been unveiled.  Variety is reporting that a The Void Experience Center featuring Secrets of the Empire is set to open in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2018.  The Void is opening two new Experience Centers next year, one in the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian in Las Vegas and the other at the Glendale Galleria in Glendale, California.  Both new locations will feature Secrets of the Empire.

Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk Reprise Their 'Rogue One' Roles For 'Secrets of the Empire'

The new hyper-reality experience, Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, opening in Orlando, Florida and London, England next month and Anaheim, California in January will feature a Rogue One reunion of sorts.  During an interview with ILMxLAB producer Judah Graham and VFX supervisor Ben Snow on The Star Wars Show this week it was revealed that Deigo Luna and Alan Tudyk, who played Cassian Andor and K-2SO in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story respectively, had reprised their roles for the experience.

Video: 'The Star Wars Show' Extended Interview With Kathleen Kennedy

Kathleen Kennedy Gives Updates on 'The Last Jedi,' 'Solo,' and More on 'The Star Wars Show'

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy made her first appearance on The Star Wars Show, Lucasfilm's official Star Wars YouTube variety series, where she was interviewed by host Andi Gutierrez.  Kennedy spoke briefly about almost all the announced projects that Lucasfilm has in the works, giving updates on the films The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story, the animated series Star Wars Rebels, the upcoming video game Star Wars: Battlefront II, the Disney parks expansion Galaxy's Edge, and the VR experience Secrets of the Empire.  Check it out below,

'Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire' Immersive Entertainment Experience Trailer

Lucasfilm and Disney have released a new trailer for Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, the upcoming Immersive Entertainment Experience from ILMxLABs and The VOID coming to Disney Parks this holiday season.  The virtual reality (VR) experience will let fans join the Rebel Alliance on a mission as they infiltrate the Empire's facility on Mustafar to steal top secret intelligence.  Check out the trailer below,

Lucasfilm and ILMxLAB Announce "Secrets of the Empire," A New Hyper-Reality Experience

Lucasfilm and the ILMxLAB have announced a new hyper-reality experience that will debut at Downtown Disney in California and Disney Springs in Florida this holiday season.  The experience, titled Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, was developed by ILMxLAB in collaboration with THE VOID, a company that specializes in combining VR head set experiences with real locations.  THE VOID has previously worked on the Ghostbusters: Dimensions experience, which was met with positive reviews.
