New 'Star Wars' Exhibition Coming To London

By Ciaran Duggan,

Fans of the Star Wars saga will be able to visit a special 'Star Wars' exhibition, which will feature original costumes from the franchise, in England later this year.

It seems England, notably London, has become the epicentre for all things Star Wars this year, as London was the host city for the latest Star Wars: Celebration convention and is the place where the Episode VIII production studios are based, at Pinewood. Naturally it makes sense that London would be the host city for another Star Wars exhibition.

Over 200 original props and costumes from all of the Star Wars movies, including the most recent film: The Force Awakens, will be displayed in a 'Star Wars' exhibition at the 02 in Greenwich, London. Some memorabilia on show will include the robot R2-D2 costume, manned by the late English actor Kenny Baker, as well as the well famous bikini costume worn by Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) in Return of the Jedi.

This exhibition is not the first of its kind. According to a BBC report, the exhibition inaugurated in Canada and has since travelled to many other cities across the world, including European cities such as Cologne and Munich.

Lego Rogue One Image Circulated on Facebook

By Ciaran Duggan,

Today has been a bit of a slow news day, in light of the release of the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer a week ago. In spite of this, we felt it would be right to shine light on a inventive depiction of the Rogue One Rebels Cast. A Lego version of the Rogue One Cast has circulated the internet, following this Facebook post:

Seeing this image in all its glory, could also hint at the possibility of the creation of a Rogue One Lego video game. It's definitely something we would all love to transpire.

Rogue One Smashes It At The Twitter Trailer Box Office

 By Ciaran Duggan

This past week has been an extraordinary success for the world of trailers, particularly on the Twittersphere.

The buzz on Twitter was ever present, as new trailers were released for the DC Comics mammoth villain-centric movie, Suicide Squad and the magical return of the beloved Harry Potter Franchise, with J.K. Rowling’s new film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. In amongst all that, it was the new Rogue One trailer which has got film fans giddy. Measured on Retweets, likes and other measures of interaction, the trailer ranked at No. 2 of the year on Twitter, falling just short of Captain America: Civil War (which had a month head start as well).
However, for this week alone Star Wars has managed to knock it out of the park, as it eclipsed the Harry Potter prequel and much anticipated DC villains’ movie, by claiming the No. 1 spot for Twitter retweets, likes and other forms of interaction.

Disney and Lucasfilm will be overjoyed by this response, but perhaps this shouldn’t be so shocking. After all, The Force Awakens third trailer managed to receive over 100 million views in the space of 24 hours and marked a new record for the most views of a trailer in 24 hours. It seems Rogue One is stepping up to the mark.

By: Benjamin Hart

It appears the cast of The Force Awakens will be making their first big late night outing this Monday on a special episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. Our friends at Geeks Speak tipped us off that director J.J. Abrams will be a guest on the show alongside cast members Harison Ford(Han Solo), Carrie Fisher(Leia), Daisy Ridley(Rey), Adam Driver(Kylo Ren), and John Boyega(Finn).

Considering Kimmel and his crew dressed up as Star Wars characters for their annual Halloween episode, I think it's safe to say this will be an awesome show full of surprises.

The episode will air on Monday, November 23rd at 11:35pm ET on ABC!

Empire Magazine Unveils Two 'The Force Awakens' Covers

By: Benjamin Hart

Earlier this week Empire Magazine teased that Star Wars was going to be be featured in their upcoming issue, and this morning they revealed two stunning foldout covers that feature characters Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens prominently. One is a villain cover which includes Captain Phasma, Kylo Ren and General Hux in a First Order hanger bay surrounded by Stormtroopers and TIE Fighters. The other is a hero cover, which shows Finn, Rey, Poe Dameron and BB-8 standing on Jakku near the Millennium Falcon. You can both of them in full below:

Now, as awesome as both of these covers are, I must point out two odd espects about them that a lot of you have probably already noticed. Firstly, on the left side of the villain you can see that the Stormtroopers are Original Trilogy Stormtroopers and not the new First Order Stormtroopers that have been shown to be appearing in the film. Secondly, on the hero cover, the Millennium Falcon's radar dish is round and not rectangular as we've seen in The Force Awakens. Whether these are mistake or simply subtle callbacks to the Original Trilogy is unclear, but worth noting.

Both of these covers will be on newsstands next Thursday, August 27th!

Subway, Covergirl & More Join 'The Force Awakens' Promotional Campaign

By: Benjamin Hart

Now is the time to be on the lookout for The Force Awakens merchandise, even if your getting five dollar footlong at Subway or a box of Cheerios at the grocery store! Yesterday it was announced that Lucasfilm had struck a deal with several big name brands to promote The Force Awakens through promotional tie-ins and their merchandise. Comicbook.com broke the news, revealing that FCA US, Duracell, General Mills, Subway, HP and Verizon will all be on the Star Wars bandwagon this Fall and Winter.

And thanks to Allure we already have a great example of this as they have unveiled Covergirl's new line of The Force Awakens inspired products, which includes lipstick, mascara and lipgloss. The mascara containers are especially interesting because they include quotes, some of which we haven't heard before, such as; "I will finish what you started."

In addition, we gleaned an official statement from Lucasfilm on the matter from the offical press release that was shared by our friend at Jedi News:

"SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. (August 13, 2015)—Lucasfilm announced today that they are collaborating with seven of the world’s most well-known brands— COVERGIRL® & Max Factor, Duracell, FCA US, General Mills, HP, Subway® and Verizon—for the launch of an expansive, historic promotional campaign in support of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” opening on December 18.

For the highly anticipated next episode in the “Star Wars” franchise, each company has developed break-through, custom creative campaigns, and innovative programs and activations for their target audiences.

“We are thrilled to be working with such a stellar roster of promotional partners. The ‘Star Wars’ brand has endured over the years, across generational audiences because it connects with people in a very special way,” said Lynwen Brennan, General Manager of Lucasfilm. “Our partners have all delivered original, stand-out campaigns that capture the familiar fun and excitement of our galaxy far, far away that we hope will delight fans as they get ready to experience ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens.’”

The seven best-in-class global partners were chosen for their creative excellence within their fields as well as their collective diverse global reach. All of the partnerships strategically complement the tempo and tone of the film’s overall marketing campaign."

Star Wars The Force Awakens Trailer Reproduced in Style of Grand-Theft Auto

By Ciaran Duggan

The Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer was released a mere three weeks ago and since its debut the reception towards the trailer has been overwhelmingly up-beat. The copious volume of re-enactments of the trailer manufactured by YouTubers reflects the disseminating optimism for Episode VII and endemically showcases the overriding positivity surrounding the contemporary Star Wars Franchise.

The latest YouTuber to sink their teeth into the trailer is Powerlight 13. This YouTuber has recreated The Force Awakens trailer in the style of the award-winning and grandiose gaming franchise, Grand-Theft Auto. See what you all make of it by watching the trailer below:

Of course, these trailers will never live up to the authentic Force Awakens trailer, but it is a light-hearted viewing nonetheless. The GTA remake symbolises the proliferating volume of fan-made recreations concerning the iconic 88 second clip of The Force Awakens. These fan-made recreations have included visual and audio revisions of the Force Awakens trailer into a satire of George Lucas’ CGI Special Editions, as well as reconstruction of the trailer using OT and PT footage.

Having witnessed these unique reconstructions, what has been your favourite fan-made recreation of Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer? Let us know in the comments below.

Star Wars References Spotted In Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D & The Flash

By: Benjamin Hart

Star Wars references; they're everywhere! The Saga has been a pop culture phenomenon since it's inception in 1977, and since then just about every other popular franchise has given the 'Wars a nod. This past Tuesday saw not one, but two different references on two different TV series created by two rival mega Superhero powerhouses. The Flash which airs at 8pm ET on The CW, and Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D, which airs at 9pm ET on ABC, created by DC and Marvel, respectively, both featured awesome Star Wars references in their latest episodes.

First off, the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. reference appears near the beginning the latest episode titled "A Fractured House". At around 3:50 in the episode, Bobbi Morse, a.k.a Mockingbird(played by Adrianne Palicki), appears wearing a blue Star Wars shirt:

And then we have The Flash, which hosts an even more impressive Star Wars nod. It happens around 21:35 in the episode titled "Going Rogue". In the scene, Barry Allen/The Flash(Grant Gustin) is participating in a trivia contest with Iris West(Candice Patton), Eddie Thawne(Rick Cosnett) and Arrow's Felicity Smoak(Emily Bett Rickards). Eddie gets a question wrong, which prompts this exchange between Barry and Felicity:

Barry: "Maybe they'll get it wrong too."
Felicity: "Oh yeah, I'm sure that the team named "Pride & Padawans" doesn't know the name of Han Solo's ship."

Felicity then motions to a Star Wars costumed group on the other side of the room:

According to our count. this is the first Star Wars reference in the Arrow/Flash TV universe and the second in the Marvel Cinematic universe(the first being Steve Rogers' notebook in Captain America: The Winter Soldier). Let's hope these aren't the last Star Wars nods we see in both universes! If you want to see the scenes in full, you can watch The Flash episode on CWTV.com and the S.H.I.E.L.D. episode is currently available to certain subscribers on ABC.com.

The next best thing to watching Star Wars is seeing it pop up in other awesome things. We love to point out and discuss references to Star Wars in pop culture, so if you know of any, such as the ones above, in movies, TV shows, Video games and more, please drop us a line at swunderworld@gmail.com!

Star Wars Reference In 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'

By: Benjamin Hart

Star Wars, being the cultural phenomenon it has been since 1977, always seems to get nods in other movies, TV shows & more. One of the most recent references shows up in Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The film isn't due to be officially released until April 4th but several clips have already leaked online, including the first ten minutes of the movie, courtesy of our friends at Following The Nerd. The reference shows up at 2:40 in the video. A close up of Steve Rogers' notebook reveals both Star Wars and Star Trek are on the list of things he wants to catch up on, along with others like I Love Lucy, The Moon Landing and Thai Food. Star Wars is curiously crossed out, so I guess we can assume the Captain has recently done a Star Wars marathon.

For those not familiar with the story, Steve Rogers(Captain America) is a man out of time, having come to the peak of his abilities during World War II, only to be frozen in ice for over 70 years and waking up in the modern era(Seen in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger). I'm not certain, but I believe this is the first Star Wars reference in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Considering that both Marvel and Lucasfilm are now owned by Disney, let's hope references like this happen more often!

If you're a Marvel fan, be sure to check out our awesome friends at the Marvel Cinematic Universe Facebook page!

Carrie Fisher & James Earl Jones Face Off On 'The Big Bang Theory'

By: Benjamin Hart

Princess Leia and Darth Vader, or should I say Carrie Fisher and James Earl Jones, face off once again on an upcoming episode of The Big Bang Theory! Entertainment Weekly has released a photo from the episode, which will air Thursday at 8pm Eastern, featuring James Earl Jones and Sheldon Cooper(Jim Parsons) staring down a less than amused looking Carrie Fisher brandishing a Baseball bat.

In the episode, Sheldon fails to get tickets to San Diego Comic Con and he sets out to hold his own convention, leading him to seek out James Earl Jones as a guest. No word yet on how Carrie will figure into the story, but from the looks of it, it's going to get interesting. Star Wars are not going to want to miss this one, for sure!

Check out a preview for the episode here!

Modern Family is about to get a whole lot cooler!  Billy Dee Williams, aka Lando Calrissian, is set to guest star in the episode titled "New Year's Eve".  The episode will feature Jay Pritchett (Ed O'Neill) taking his family to Palm Springs where he will cross paths with Billy Dee in a card game (sounds a bit like Billy Dee is reprising his role as Lando!)  No date for the episode has been announced yet, although based on the title it's a safe bet to assume it will air in late December or early January.  Modern Family airs Wednesday's on ABC at 8 pm EST.
