Matt Smith Denies Having A Role In 'Episode IX'

Back in August 2018, it was reported that former Dr. Who and The Crown star Matt Smith had been cast in a "key" role in Star Wars Episode IX.  There were no details about the role at the time and it turns out there may have been a good reason. Smith was recently interviewed by The LA Times and the actor denied the reports that he would be appearing in the film.  He told the Times, "As far as I can tell, I’m definitely not."

Report: Matt Smith Cast In 'Star Wars Episode IX'

Geronimo!  Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith has joined the cast of the upcoming film Star Wars Episode IX, according to a new report from Variety.  Everything about Smith's role, as it is with just about everything about the JJ Abrams directed film, is under wraps--although Variety does describe the role as "key."  The film is currently being shot in England, and is slated to come out in December 2019.

Rumor: Matt Smith Auditions for Episode VII

With Matt Smith leaving Doctor Who at the end of this year could he be trading his sonic screwdriver for a lightsaber?  Making the jump from the TARDIS to the Falcon?  Trading his bow tie and fez for Jedi robes? (Ok, I'm done).  In all seriousness, Bleeding Cool is reporting that Smith recently went in to audition for a part in Star Wars Episode VII.  

With Smith departing his role as the 11th doctor this Christmas, it seems unlikely that after three years of being the face on one of the biggest sci-fi franchises he would take on a role in another.  However Smith has gone on record in the past that he would like a role in Star Wars, so you never know...

Doctor Who's Matt Smith Would Like Role in Star Wars

The star of the hit British sci-fi series Doctor Who has been making the rounds this week at San Diego Comic-Con, including an interview with IGN where he was asked about his future acting aspirations after the much anticipated conclusion of his role as the Eleventh Doctor.

When asked if he would like a role in the other franchise, Star Trek, Matt responded, "I would, J.J. --or Star Wars."
