Opinion: Where Will We See Ahsoka Next?

By Ciaran Duggan,

On the latest installment of The Star Wars Underworld the hosts gave a recap of the first day at Star Wars: Celebration Europe 2016. The first major panel of the day was the Ahsoka 'Untold Stories' panel. This panel delved into the backstory of the character, as well as the untold stories concerning Ahsoka during the period of The Clone Wars. The biggest reveal of the panel wasn't actually about Ahsoka's past tales, but rather Dave Filoni's shock admission: Ahsoka survived the confrontation with Darth Vader in the Season Two finale of Star Wars: Rebels.

Play from 59:45 to watch Dave Filoni's surprise reveal about Ahsoka

Filoni's all but outright confirmation of Ahsoka's return has struck a chord among fans and stimulated extensive interest and debate among Star Wars fans. The 'Ahsoka' panel obtained 160,000 views on the Star Wars YouTube channel, over three times the number of views that the Rebels: Season 3 panel received. The central debate seems to centre on the manner and medium in which we will see Ahsoka again.  I believe there are three principal mediums in which Lucasfilm and Disney will tell the next chapter of Ahsoka's story. This will either be in novel format; as a TV spin off series or as a stand alone movie. Personally, I surmise that we will see Ahsoka return to our TV screens on an animated series. We already know that there is an Ahsoka post-Order 66 novel which is in the pipeline and scheduled for release this October, which is exciting news in itself, however this is not the comeback that Dave Filoni seemed to refer too in this panel.
Front Cover of New Ahsoka Novel

In his closing remarks Filoni told us that Ahsoka will return and also stated that Ahsoka wouldn't make a comeback in Rebels. Yet why did he need to stress the fact that she won't be back in Rebels? It is important to remember that Ahsoka is a character whom Filoni has invested alot of time in. She represents a significant and, arguably, lasting relic of George Lucas' Star Wars Universe. Filoni was one to tell us that Ahsoka is back, which makes me think that Filoni has his hands all over the next stage of Ahsoka's journey and would explain why it was Filoni who confirmed the character's return and not Lucasfilm Story Group members, Kiri Hart or Pablo Hidalgo. If Filoni was to be the man to usher in Ahsoka's reintroduction, then the question of where and when we will see Ahsoka next becomes a bit more clearer. A Rebels return could well be in the offing, particularly if Rebels has a fourth season, which is certainly not out of the realms of possibility and neither Lucasfilm nor Disney have made any suggestions about the fact that Season 3 is the final season of the series (albeit they also haven't refuted the rumors that Season 3 would be the last, when reports were made back in May). So where and when will we see Ahsoka next? Here are my concluding thoughts.
Where?

In Star Wars: Rebels or a future animated TV series that Filoni would be heading, or at least working on. The in-universe time period would likely be in the era of Rebels and most definitely before A New Hope commences.

When?

I think we will hear little more about Ahsoka reappearance this year because attention will want to be directed towards the upcoming 'Ahsoka' novel release this year, Next year, after Rebels Season 3 concludes, Rogue One has been released in movie theatres and the E.K. Johnston 'Ahsoka' novel has been published, I believe we will see her back on our TV screens.

Conclusion

It remains to be seen whether my predictions come to fruition and I wouldn't pretend to know what will happen exactly in the future. As a wise Jedi master once said "Always in motion is the future and many possible futures there are." I finish my piece by citing Filoni's final message in the Ahsoka panel. The revelation that got as Clone Wars fans on their feet, whistling, cheering and applauding.

Filoni: I'm not going to say what form any [Ahsoka] story would take place, but after the reaction...I don't know, I don't know....it might, it just might be possible...it doesn't necessarily mean what some of us would want it to mean maybe, but it might be possible to see her again, she might have something to do (1:01:30)

You have heard my thoughts, now feel free to leave a comment below telling us when you think we will see Ahsoka next, in which medium her re-appearance will be presented and where in the future.

By: Benjamin Hart

Speaking from experience, Funko Pop! vinyl figures are very addictive to collect. They seem to have every character you can possibly think of, and the ones they don't have seem to be on the way. One of the newest characters to get the Funko treatment is none other than everyone's Torgruta Jedi, Ahsoka Tano.

Last week at the Ahsoka's Untold Tales panel at Star Wars Celebration Europe in London, the voice behind Ahsoka, Ashley Eckstein, announced that a new Ahsoka Pop! figure is on the way and it will be exclusively available at Hot Topic. Ahsoka will reportedly be kicking off a brand new line of Star Wars Rebels figures that are coming soon.

By: Benjamin Hart

Lots amazing things have been happening over the past few hours as Star Wars Celebration Europe in London kicked off earlier today. Aside from the massive, attention grabbing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story panel that took place, there were several other great panels that happened today. One of those was "Ahsoka's Untold Tales" panel which was hosted by David Collins and featured Star Wars: The Clone Wars supervising director and Star Wars Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni alongside the Lucasfilm Story Group's Pablo Hidalgo and the voice of Ahsoka herself, Ashley Eckstein.

The panel covered a variety topics related to the beloved Torgruta Jedi and revealed never before seen storylines that were developed for The Clone Wars but were never produced. Filoni especially had a lot to say about Ahsoka's path beyond The Clone Wars and how it led to her epic appearance in Star War Rebels. BREAKING: Ahsoka Tano Novel Coming In October

By: Benjamin Hart

Just mere hours after the thrilling and shocking season two finale of Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars fans have awoken to yet another shocker; an Ahsoka Tano novel is coming! "Twilight Of The Apprentice" featured Ahsoka's long awaited, and much dreaded reunion with her former master. Now this new novel, titled "Ahsoka", will tell the story of what happened to the Togruta after she left the Jedi Order in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and before she became the mysterious "Fulcrum" in Rebels.

Just moments ago, Amy Ratcliffe revealed the news on Nerdist, along with some artwork by Star Wars Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni. A description of the novel was also released from Disney-Lucasfilm press:

"Ahsoka Tano, fan favorite character from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, will be the star of her own young adult novel from Disney Lucasfilm Press this October 11, 2016! Fans have long wondered what happened to Ahsoka after she left the Jedi Order near the end of the Clone Wars, and before she re-appeared as the mysterious Rebel operative Fulcrum in Rebels. Finally, her story will begin to be told. Following her experiences with the Jedi and the devastation of Order 66, Ahsoka is unsure she can be part of a larger whole ever again. But her desire to fight the evils of the Empire and protect those who need it will lead her right to Bail Organa, and the Rebel Alliance…."

Author E.K. Johnston will write the novel which is slated to be published on October 11th. Nerdist also briefly spoke with Dave Filoni about the novel:

“Ahsoka has a long history, and there is much more to it than the fans know,” says Dave Filoni, Executive Producer/Supervising Director [of Star Wars Rebels and The Clone Wars]. “I have always worked on her story, even parts that I know we will probably never see on screen. By broadening her story from the animated series to the written page, I feel we have a real opportunity to provide fans with details about her character that they would not know otherwise. We are also responding to the strong fan support that we have seen Ahsoka receive over the last eight years. The fans want more Ahsoka and we are going to give it to you, and since I’ve been there since the beginning I am dedicated to working with publishing to help make this book as authentic a part of her story as if we filmed it for the series.”

You can now pre-order the novel from various retailers as well!

Video: 'Ahsoka Tano and Darth Vader: The Rise and Fall of a Friendship'

By: Benjamin Hart

Warning: feels incoming! The Star Wars Rebels season two finale is coming up soon and will see several storylines come to a head, most notably the relationship between Ahsoka Tano and Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker. For years fans have anticipated and speculated about a confrontation between Ahsoka and Vader, and now it appears it's finally happening in the hour-long season finale "Twilight Of The Apprentice". For fans who watched Star Wars: The Clone Wars and saw Ahsoka develop as she did over the course of six seasons, this episode will no doubt be an emotional one regardless of its outcome.

Today, Lucasfilm released a video titled Ahsoka Tano and Darth Vader: The Rise and Fall of a Friendship, which features a montage of Anakin and Ahsoka's experiences. It's an incredible nostalgia trip covering everything from Ahsoka's introduction in The Clone Wars film to her departure from the Jedi Order in season five and her return in Star Wars Rebels. At the very end of the video we also get a new line of dialogue from Vader, one we can assume is from the season finale. You can check out the full video below:

"Our long awaited meeting has come at last."

Whoa! This episode is going to be incredible! You can catch "Twilight Of The Apprentice" on Disney XD at 9:00pm ET/PT on Wednesday, March 30th.

Rumor: 'Star Wars Rebels' Season Two To Have Hour-Long Finale

By: Benjamin Hart

Apparently the second season of Star Wars Rebels will be going out with a bang in just a few weeks. Jedi-Bibliothek has reportedly uncovered info and titles for the last few episodes of the season. Not only does it look like we will finally be seeing the fateful meeting between Darth Vader and Ahsoka, but the final episode appears to be an hour-long double episode. Here's what they revealed:

  • 2 × 18 "Shroud of Darkness" (roughly: "Veil of Darkness") - USA: March 2, 2016
  • 2 × 19 "The Forgotten Droid" (roughly: "The forgotten droid" - USA: March 16, 2016
  • 2 × 20 "The Mystery of Chopper Base" (roughly: "The secret of the chopper base") - USA: March 23, 2016
  • 2 × 21 "Twilight of the Apprentice: Part I" (roughly: "Twilight of the student: Part I" - or "the student") - USA: March 30, 2016
  • 2 × 22 "Twilight of the Apprentice: Part II" (roughly: Twilight of the student: Part II ") - USA: March 30, 2016

Although the "Twilight of the Apprentice" episodes feature part I and Part II subtitles, it's more than likely that the episodes will be edited together to form an hour-long episode similar to the previous season premiere episodes "Spark Of Rebellion" and "Siege Of Lothal". Regardless, it looks as though we'll be getting an hour's worth of Rebels action to close out this season. Also, "The Mystery of Chopper Base" sounds very intriguing. Last year it was revealed that one episode in season two will focus on Chopper and how Hera found him. This very well could be that episode and I can't wait to see it.

As always, this is just a rumor until confirmed by Lucasfilm or Disney. Take this info with a grain of salt for the time being.

Ahsoka & Vader 'Star Wars Rebels' Figures Coming This Fall

By: Benjamin Hart

Season one of Star Wars Rebels drew to close earlier this week with the finale episode "Fire Across The Galaxy". The episode itself ended with two jaw dropping appears by classic Star Wars characters. Ahsoka Tano and Darth Vader both made big entrances in the episode, thus setting them up for what we can assume will be big roles in the second season. The toy wizards at Hasbro are looking to keep up the ongoing animated series and, and shortly after the episode aired they unveiled the action figures for Ahsoka and Vader in their new animated forms. USA Today provided us with our first look at the figures, which you can see above. Our friends at Making Star Wars also received the following message from Hasbro confirming their size and when they will be released:

"Hi, Star Wars fans. In celebration of the Star Wars Rebels Season One finale,  Hasbro is thrilled to introduce the return of two incredible fan favorites:  Darth Vader and Ahsoka Tano.  Seen for the first time in their unique Rebels styling, these 3.75” figures are a significant addition to Hasbro’s already extensive line of Star Wars Rebels action figures and role play toys. The figures will be available Fall 2015."

I have to say, these both look like excellent figures, and I can't wait to buy them. Curiously Ahsoka's Lightsabers here look green, contrary to the images we've seen from the series, and confirmation from Dave Filoni, that they are indeed white in color. It could mean that the figure is based on earlier concepts for Ahsoka in Rebels, and could change prior to it's release.

Let's hope Hasbro can end their distribution troubles so all of us can have a chance to get our hands on these!

Dave Filoni Sends Thank You For Fan's Response To The 'Rebels' Finale

By: Benjamin Hart

Warning: This article contains spoilers from the Star Wars Rebels season one finale!

The first season of Star Wars Rebels went out with a bang earlier this week and successfully blew all our minds! The finale episode "Fire Across The Galaxy" saw the Ghost crew finally succeed in rescuing Kanan from Imperial captivity, ultimately leading to the demise of their nemesis of one villain and the return of another. But before the episode could finish, we were re-introduced to a beloved character from Star Wars: The Clone Wars; Ahsoka Tano. Star Wars fandom understandably let out a collective scream of joy at the sight of Ahsoka climbing down the ladder inside the Ghost. It seems that the fans' reaction even caught the creators of the series off guard.

Today, Executive producer Dave Filoni, who created Ahsoka alongside George Lucas for The Clone Wars, posted a message to social media about him and his crew's appreciation for the overwhelming response to the finale, and included a sketch of Ahsoka in her Rebels form. You can check it out below:

I think I can speak for all fans when I say; No, thank YOU, Dave & crew! All of us were brought to tears when Ahsoka walked down the steps of the Jedi Temple at the end of Season five of The Clone Wars, and when the series subsequently ended, we worried we would never see the young Torgruta again. Thank you for putting our fears to rest and making Ahsoka, what we can assume to be, a major part of Star Wars Rebels going forward. May the Force be with the cast & crew of this wonderful series! We hope to see it continue for many seasons to come!
