The end of 2019 may be bringing the end of the Skywalker saga with the release of The Rise of Skywalker, but there are plenty of new beginnings to look forward to in 2020. One of those is the first novel in a new trilogy from author Timothy Zahn about the character Grand Admiral Thrawn. The trilogy, known as the "Thrawn Ascendancy" trilogy, was first announced last month at New York Comic Con, and today Lucasfilm and Del Rey books have revealed the cover and title of the first novel.
Star Wars: Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising is set to hit book stores in May 2020. The cover, designed by Sarofsky design, can be seen below,
Grand Admiral Thrawn was first created by Zahn back in 1991 for the novel Heir to the Empire, which was the first in what became known as "The Thrawn Trilogy" and kicked off a new era of Star Wars publishing. Though, eventually, those novels were rendered "Legends" (or non-canon), Thrawn was the first major character to be brought into the new canon, with appearances both on the page and on screen.
The new trilogy is set before the events of Star Wars Rebels, where Thrawn was first brought back into canon, as well as the trilogy of novels that Zahn wrote about the character that were released over the course of 2017-2019. Those books, Thrawn (2017), Thrawn: Allegiance (2018), and Thrawn: Treason (2019) filled in the gaps between and prior to the character's appearances on Rebels.
Star Wars: Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising by Timothy Zahn hits shelves in May 2020.
