As Star Wars fans we have a lot of amazing content to look forward over the next couple of months, one being the first ever live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian. The series is set to premiere next month on Disney+. However, a few lucky people have already gotten a chance to see some footage from the series, and their reactions may tell us what we can expect from "Mando".
Earlier today a press event was held in Los Angeles where members of the cast and crew appeared, including executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, as well as series stars Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian), Gina Carano (Cara Dune), and Carl Weathers (Greef Carga). They spoke about various things related to season one of The Mandalorian, and also provided some updates on season two.
Our friend Johnamarie Macias from The Wookiee Gunner shared a rundown of some of the most interesting tidbits revealed during the press conference:
Highlights from #TheMandalorian press event (1/2):— Johnamarie Macias (@BlueJaigEyes) October 19, 2019
- They’re into week one of filming S2.
- Carl Weathers will be a director in S2.
- The footage seen by press had various clips from S1.
- Filoni didn’t want to tease about any upcoming characters.
Highlights from #TheMandalorian press event (2/2):— Johnamarie Macias (@BlueJaigEyes) October 19, 2019
- Filoni’s experience had a positive effect on the last episodes of #TheCloneWars.
- New directors (other than Weathers) couldn’t be announced during the junket.
- There’s a Life Day reference in the show.
Also at the event, members of the press were shown almost 30 minutes of footage from the first three episodes of The Mandalorian. Below we've collected various reactions from Twitter, all of which were extremely positive. Many praised the aesthetic of the filmmaking, the acting, the musical score, and much more. You can read them all below:
What a morning! I saw 30 minutes of footage from #TheMandalorian and all I have to say is, this is the epic Star Wars show we’ve been waiting years for. Please pardon my excitement. pic.twitter.com/Ow57rFJmQp— Jennifer Landa (@JenniferLanda) October 19, 2019
Saw 30 minutes of #TheMandalorian footage. Old studio westerns of the 40’s and 50’s with a dash of samurai movie vibes mixed in a Star Wars-y blender. I think Star Wars fans will be very pleased. @ludwiggoransson’s score is marvelous.— Michelle Buchman (@michelledeidre) October 19, 2019
The Mandalorian footage was pretty damn good. Star Wars done with prestige TV with lots of action. Lots of Easter Eggs! #themandalorian #DisneyPlus pic.twitter.com/r7EGxu4RaJ— The Nerds of Color (@TheNerdsofColor) October 19, 2019
Wow. #TheMandalorian is completely amazing. Saw nearly a half hour of footage from what I was told were the first three episodes. Whoever you think Nick Nolte is ... the answer will surprise you. pic.twitter.com/jh3CpZnMW2— Drew Taylor (@DrewTailored) October 19, 2019
Believe the hype around #TheMandalorian! We saw 27 minutes of footage and it was amazing. You guys aren’t ready for this show! pic.twitter.com/6E9L6d9EQh— Geeks of Color (@GeeksOfColor) October 19, 2019
Just screened 27 minutes of footage from #TheMandalorian! Everything I saw looked incredible. Feels completely different than anything we’ve seen in the #StarWars universe! pic.twitter.com/6LOdiq0BAD— Dorian Parks (@DorianParksnRec) October 19, 2019
Saw almost 30 minutes of #TheMandalorian footage this morning. It's truly incredible. It looks like the films, feels innately Star Wars, introduces new concepts, and adds layers that people have been waiting to see for a long time. pic.twitter.com/4JVB16pMAL— Mansoor Mithaiwala (@MansoorAYM) October 19, 2019
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a big Star Wars fan but holy shit am I blown away by the clips I just saw for #TheMandalorian. Horror fans are going to LOVE it and I would get #DisneyPlus just for that series alone.— Samhain 🎃🍭 (@shannon_mcgrew) October 19, 2019
Reliving my childhood Saturday mornings watching Star Wars. The 30 so minutes of #TheMandalorian footage we saw was incredibly cool. The samurai-infused space western you've always wanted with an ice cold lead, a bunch of rad creatures, and a killer score @ludwiggoransson ✨ pic.twitter.com/FBcJf9II6P— Rosie Knight of The Comet 💥 (@RosieMarx) October 19, 2019
Just saw almost 30 minutes of #TheMandalorian’s pilot episode. It feels like a thrilling return to the original trilogy era of Star Wars. It feels like a big scale movie, not a tv series. They are still keeping a lot of mystery with deliberate cuts in the footage.— Peter Sciretta (@slashfilm) October 19, 2019
The score is awesome. Seeing @dave_filoni do live action Star Wars is everything I’ve wanted. I can’t wait to see more. November 12 is my birthday and Disney+’s launch of this show will be my celebration.— Peter Sciretta (@slashfilm) October 19, 2019
Also there is some up close interactions with Star Wars creatures fully realized in a photo real way (I’m guessing using some of the same technology that @Jon_Favreau used on Jungle Book and Lion King) that can only be described as INTENSE.— Peter Sciretta (@slashfilm) October 19, 2019
Clarification: apparently the footage we saw went beyond the pilot episode. Unclear on how many episodes it spanned. It was selected scenes.— Peter Sciretta (@slashfilm) October 19, 2019
It was the first three episodes.— Peter Sciretta (@slashfilm) October 19, 2019
Just saw 25+ glorious minutes of #TheMandalorian and WOW! Pedro Pascal’s presence. Raw, visceral action. Beautiful and gritty cinematography. And that cool, spacey score! It’s not TV. It’s not HBO. It’s not Netflix. It’s CINEMATIC. It’s #StarWars on #DisneyPlus! pic.twitter.com/I4MqPQuiAc— Fandalorians: A Star Wars Podcast (@fandalorians) October 19, 2019
Just watched close to 25 minutes of footage from #TheMandalorian. It’s very cool and atmospheric - sometimes evoking the vibe of Rogue One (which I adore). The title character is instantly fascinating and there are great action and suspense moments, including some Predator vibes— Eerie Eric Goldman (@TheEricGoldman) October 19, 2019
Just watched 27 minutes of Mandalorian footage and legit cried. Can’t say much but — This is real and it’s happening and it feels SO FREAKING STAR WARS pic.twitter.com/A56KJBc1GH— Ash Crossan (@AshCrossan) October 19, 2019
Just watched footage from #TheMandalorian and it was amazing with a big Rogue One vibe for me @JediNewsUK— Brian Sims (@BrianMSims) October 19, 2019
I just got out of the #themandalorian press screening and gotta say, really surpassed expectations. This seems like a truly high-budget, movielike project. If other flagship Disney+ series have a similar production quality, the streaming service will definitely have a strong run— Tyler Hersko (@TylerHersko) October 19, 2019
As for the footage, it really feels as much like a movie as a TV show. A lot of inspiration from old westerns and even some seemingly direct homage to Attack of the Clones.— Bryan Young (@swankmotron) October 19, 2019
Anyway, they showed us a bunch of stuff from the opening episode, but a lot of disconnected stuff to preserve surprises. They did show us a slightly different version if the Celebration stuff in the middle of all of it, too. #TheMandalorian— Bryan Young (@swankmotron) October 19, 2019
Pedro Pascal kills it in the mode of the strongest-most-silent type. #TheMandalorian— Bryan Young (@swankmotron) October 19, 2019
It feels as though it takes as much from Yojimbo as it does A Fistful of Dollars... which might not make sense when you remember one is a remake of another, but they are different. #themandalorian— Bryan Young (@swankmotron) October 19, 2019
Just watched about 25 minutes of #TheMandalorian on a big screen, and chills ...... I have chills!!!! Can’t wait to see more! pic.twitter.com/INpbs1jBdO— Christina Radish (@ChristinaRadish) October 19, 2019
Disney just showed off 30 minutes of #TheMandalorian and it looks even better than I had hoped. I'm not usually a music guy, but what an incredible sounding score!— Lesnick 'r Treat (@silaslesnick) October 19, 2019
Saw ~27 minutes of #TheMandalorian footage this morning. Always difficult to make sense of a bunch of disconnected scenes but it looks intense, surprisingly dark and very expensive.— Lindsey Bahr (@ldbahr) October 19, 2019
Just saw footage of Mandalorian and it’s amazing. It’s a thrilling dive back into the Star Wars universe. Fans will love the attention to detail. The score is killer! It’s intense and a good time. Can’t wait to see the entire series. #Mandalorian is on Disney + November 12. pic.twitter.com/5iJyEOleLe— Black Girl Nerds (@BlackGirlNerds) October 19, 2019
Saw 27 minutes of @themandalorian. It's as awesome as you want it to be. Can't say anything specific but one scene answered a question that I don't think has ever been explained/shown in any @starwars movie. Love that it opens up the Star Wars universe in a cool new way. pic.twitter.com/vTxC427sVi— Steven Weintraub (@colliderfrosty) October 19, 2019
And last, but not least, Jon Favreau's recent birthday was honored with a cake made to look like the helmet of The Mandalorian:This is the Star Wars thing I've been waiting for! While I love the Skywalker saga, I've wanted to see new characters and places explored in depth which can only be done over multiple episodes in a series format. Cannot wait to see more of @themandalorian. pic.twitter.com/exRmsLTYzU— Steven Weintraub (@colliderfrosty) October 19, 2019
"Feliz cumpleaños, jefe." @PedroPascal1 celebrates @Jon_Favreau and his #TheMandalorian birthday cake. pic.twitter.com/CGZxXHnYcF— The Mandalorian (@themandalorian) October 19, 2019
