D23 Expo 2019 Scheduled Unveiled

This August will see the return of D23 Expo, Disney's Biennial convention which will showcase the many things the company has in store for us in the near future. The 3-day event will take place in Anaheim, California and will feature first looks at a plethora of upcoming projects, many of which are related to Star Wars.

Today D23 released their schedule of special presentations that will be happening inside "Hall D23" over the course of the weekend. Below I'll be taking a closer look at the new schedule and speculating about what we might get in the way of Star Wars reveals:

Friday, August 23

The Disney Legends Awards Ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 23. The ceremony, hosted by Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger, will once again honor those visionaries and artists who have made significant contributions to the Disney legacy. This year’s recipients are: Wing Chao, Robert Downey Jr., Jon Favreau, James Earl Jones, Bette Midler, Kenny Ortega, Barnette Ricci, Robin Roberts, Diane Sawyer, Ming-Na Wen, and Hans Zimmer.

On Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m., the highly anticipated streaming service Disney+ will give guests a first look at some of its original content including Lady and the Tramp, The Mandalorian, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, and many more during this star-studded presentation.

Seeing Darth Vader actor James Earl Jones and The Mandalorian executive producer Jon Favreau receive awards at the Disney Legends ceremony will certainly be a momentous occasion. Later that day it sounds like we'll be getting some new reveals from The Mandalorian. It will be interesting to see if we get some new footage from the series, or if they show off the same footage that was previously unveiled at Star Wars Celebration Chicago. Either way, hopefully they will see this as an opportunity to officially release some Mandalorian footage online(because the poor quality "leaked" footage is getting old).

Saturday, August 24

The Walt Disney Studios will present a behind-the-scenes look at its blockbuster collection of upcoming films on Saturday, August 24, at 10 a.m. Fans will see what’s on the drawing board for the acclaimed filmmakers at Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios and get a peek at the exciting slate of live-action projects, from Disney to Marvel Studios to Star Wars. As always, attendees will be treated to exclusive footage, special guest appearances, and more!

This could be be a big event for Star Wars fans. At the previous D23 back in 2017 the cast and director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi were on hand to reveal a behind the scenes reel for the film, and we were also treated to some awesome character posters. While we've had no indication regarding what might be shown from Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker,  that should give you an idea regarding what we could perhaps expect this year.

Sunday, August 25

On Sunday, August 25, at 10:30 a.m., step into the magical world of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products with Chairman Bob Chapek to find out what’s new and what’s next for resorts around the globe, including more about the transformational plans for Epcot at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

With Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge now fully revealed and open to the public, it's unlikely Disney will have anything Star Wars related to announce in regards to their theme parks. There is a loose end that needs to be tied up in regards to the Rise Of The Resistance ride which is slated to open late at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. D23 might be the perfect venue to fully reveal that ride and announce when it will be officially opening to riders. That's just a guess at this point.

D23 2019 will be taking place August 23rd through 25th at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. You can buy tickets by clicking here!
