Star Wars Celebration Will Return To Anaheim In 2020

Star Wars Celebration Chicago has come and gone but at least it won't be too long until we all get together again.  During the Closing Ceremonies of Celebration Chicago, stage host Warwick Davis announced that the convention will be returning to Anaheim, California next year in 2020!  The specific dates of the convention have yet to be revealed, however it's nice to know we won't have to wait another two years (like we did between Orlando 2017 and Chicago 2019) to have another Celebration.

This will be the second Celebration that will be held in Anaheim.  The first was in 2015, when the famous "Chewie, we're home" trailer for The Force Awakens was unveiled.  It's also worth noting that the Anaheim convention center is right next to Disneyland, where Galaxy's Edge is located.

Given that Disney CEO Bob Iger recently told Bloomberg that the Star Wars films would have a short hiatus following The Rise of Skywalker, it will be interesting to see what is the focus of the convention (the past four Celebrations have all been tied to upcoming films).  One thing it could be is Star Wars on television, however given that the Cassian Andor prequel series won't hit Disney+ until 2021 that seems unlikely to be the focus either.

It's also interesting that no specific dates were revealed. It seems if the convention were to be in April then it would have made sense to announce them then.  One theory could be, if the convention were held a bit later then Lucasfilm could hold some reveals, such as casting, about what the next film (potentially hitting in 2021) until the convention.  Be they for a Rian Johnson film, a David Benioff and D.B. Weiss film, or something else.

Regardless, we will see you all in Anaheim in 2020.
