Oscar Isaac Talks 'The Last Jedi' Reaction, Carrie Fisher In 'Episode IX' & More

Oscar Isaac is one of the busiest actors in Hollywood today, and on top portraying Poe Dameron in Star Wars Episode IX as we speak, he's also been out promoting some of his other films that are coming soon.

Just recently, during an interview with Yahoo Entertainment to promote his next film, the post-WWII drama Operation: Finale, Isaac briefly spoke about his Star Wars role.

First off, he commented on the mock trail of Poe Dameron that was hosted by the Legal Geeks podcast at San Diego Comic Con last month (Which you can watch here). The trial sought to realistically(as possible) examine the many offenses Poe committed during the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Isaac himself, although unable to attend the event, found it very amusing:

“I love that... It’s incredible, because you have people actually engaging with the ethical question of war and what leadership is. The last thing you want is for people to watch a movie and be like, ‘Great,’ and then move on. With [The Last Jedi], the conversation continues and can stir real emotions. You’re having a conversation about actual things that matter, you know?”

Oscar also addressed the general reaction to The Last Jedi, which has left Star Wars fandom divided even more than usual in the months since it's release:

“What I think is really special about the whole thing — particularly for people that really didn’t agree with where the story went — is that it’s often a great inspiration to do your own stuff... Obviously, making your own Star Wars movie is a bit of a tough challenge, but at least from a narrative standpoint maybe you make your own thing and then show what you would want. Make what you would want to see.”

And furthermore, looking ahead to Episode IX, Isaac shared his thoughts on the news regarding the return of the late Carrie Fisher in the film, via previously unused footage:

“I’m very happy about that... I think it’ll be a wonderful way to deal with this character that we all love so much.”

Be sure to check out the full interview over at Yahoo Entertainment!

Star Wars: Episode IX opens in theaters on December 20th, 2019. Oscar Isaac will star alongside Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Kelly Marie Tran, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant, Naomi Ackie, Anthony Daniels, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, and Carrie Fisher. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams, with a script by Abrams and Chris Terio.
