A new preview of the behind the scenes footage being included on the home media release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been released by USA Today. The footage features Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill reacting to seeing Yoda on set again for the first time since the filming of Return of the Jedi. Hamill is visibly moved by seeing his former "co-star" again, and is comforted by director Rian Johnson and Yoda puppeteer and voice actor Frank Oz. You can see the moment below,
The clip is from the documentary The Director and the Jedi, which will be included on the home media release of The Last Jedi. You can seen an eleven-minute preview of the documentary here.
Hamill spoke about the moment with USA Today, telling them,
"The whole movie was really difficult for me emotionally. It was
acknowledging your mortality (and) the fact that something that was so
meaningful in your life was necessarily coming to an end, to pass the
torch to the next generation. I started the process of disconnecting
emotionally when I read (The Force Awakens) and knew I'd never
work with Harrison (Ford) again, and of course the biggest trauma was
losing Carrie (Fisher) in real life and only just having that brief
scene with her in the movie. It took on new meaning because Luke was
saying goodbye to his sister and I was saying goodbye to ever working
with her again, knowing Luke's fate."
The film will be released digitally tomorrow (March 13th) and on blu-ray and 4K Ultra on March 27th.
