Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Ewan McGregor had a big night at the Golden Globes, winning the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for his role on the FX series Fargo. At the awards ceremony, many people noticed that McGregor was sporting a beard that was very similar to one he had during the production of Revenge of the Sith. This led to speculation that McGregor was preparing to jump back into the role as Obi-Wan for the long rumored Kenobi stand alone film.
McGregor was asked about the speculation during his press conference following his win and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, this was his response,
"There’s a lot of talk, and I’d be happy to play him again, but I don’t know anything more than you do."
Reports of a Kenobi stand alone film being in development have been around for years, but they picked up steam last August when it was reported that Lucasfilm was courting director Stephen Daldry to helm it. Since then, there have been no further updates.
This is not the first time McGregor has indicated his interest in reprising the role for a stand alone film. The actor actually made a vocal cameo in The Force Awakens during Rey's "Forceback" vision, where she hears Kenobi say, "Rey, these are your first steps." Given McGregor's interest in returning to the role and Lucasfilm's willingness to make stand alone films based on legacy characters (Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters this May), a Kenobi film seems like a perfect fit. Still, we'll have to wait and see if it ever actually comes together.
