Watch The Trailer For 'Laddie', A Documentary About 'The Man Who Saved Star Wars'

Earlier this year we celebrated the 40th anniversary of the release of Episode IV: A New Hope, or as it was known back in 1977, simply "Star Wars". That film paved the way for the entire saga, all the way to The Last Jedi and beyond, but as anyone that has studied the history of the saga knows, the franchise's success didn't happen by accident.

While the original film endured many trials and tribulations, there was one unsung hero behind the scenes that was pivotal in making it all happen. His name is Alan Ladd Jr. As an executive and producer at 20th Century Fox, "Laddie", as he was called by his colleagues, was a strong supporter of George Lucas and fought to keep the production of Star Wars going during times when other studio executives wanted the film canned. Simply put, without Laddie, there would be no Star Wars.

The success of numerous other films, including Blade Runner, Young Frankenstein, Chariots Of Fire, and Gone Baby Gone can all be credited to Alan Ladd Jr. and his incredible career. In order to bring more attention to Laddie's amazing accomplishments, his daughter, Amanda Ladd-Jones, set out to create a documentary that both illustrates and celebrates his contributions to film history.

The film, titled "Laddie: The Man Behind The Movies", has just received a trailer which introduces Alan Ladd Jr.'s story and showcases some of the many interviews included in the documentary, including discussions with Morgan Freeman, Ridley Scott, Ron Howard, George Lucas, and more. You can watch the full trailer below:

Recently at the DocuSlate Film Festival, "Laddie" was screened to a live audience. Our very own Chris Seekell was in attendance and got a chance to share his thoughts on the film during the latest episode of The Star Wars Underworld Podcast. Be sure to listen to that by clicking here, and also check out our interview with Amanda Ladd-Jones from back in 2015 by clicking here.
