By Ciaran Duggan,

A Star Wars merchandising event named Force Friday was held for the first time on this day back in 2015.

The original event was set up as part of a celebration of the release of Star Wars: Episode VII  - The Force Awakens and featured the dispatch of the film's toy and action-figure line.

A number of new novels and reference books were also published as part of the Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens initiative - book and comic series which featured content related to Episode VII.

Lucasfilm have put on similar Force Friday events for subsequent cinematic releases, including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Episode VIII.

The Force Friday event Go Rogue, which was launched September last year, announced the release of new toys and other merchandise.

A Force Friday II event was held at midnight on Friday for Star Wars Episode VIII - The Last Jedi.

What is your view on the fast becoming annual Force Friday event? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
