By Ciaran Duggan,

It has been ten years since Adult Swim's Robot Chicken: Star Wars first aired on Cartoon Network on this day back in 2007.

The show aired as a Star Wars-themed double-length special of the show Robot Chicken on June 17, 2007. It was later released worldwide on DVD on July 22, 2008.

Seth Green directed the hour-long comedy episode and he was accompanied by an all-star cast which included Seth McFarlane (Emperor Palpatine), Hulk Hogan (Abraham Lincoln), Conan O'Brien (Princess Leia Organa) and Tom Kane (C-3PO).

Star Wars actors Mark Hamill and Ahmed Best voiced the characters they played in the films - Luke Skywalker and Jar Jar Binks - while George Lucas was also cast to play himself.

In addition to new content, the special also featured several Star Wars-themed sketches from previous Robot Chicken episodes.

Two sequels were created - Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II and Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III.  These aired respectively on November 16, 2008 and December 19, 2010.
