It was announced today that Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill would be appearing at New York Comic Con this October 5th-8th. The actor is slated to sign autographs at the event. The official NYCC Twitter account announced the news by tweeting, "(Mark Hamill) is coming to #NYCC & it’s his final autographing convention appearance in the US…like ever. You don’t want to miss this". The use of the words "like ever" led some to speculate that Hamill would be retiring from conventions, however Hamill took to Twitter to clarify that this was only his last convention of the year and that he would be back on the con circuit in 2018.

TRUTH IN ADVERTISING: It's my final convention appearance..THIS YEAR, not "like ever"(hopefully)! #JustSayinNYCC #NoFondFarewells #IllBeBack https://t.co/DQezRG9PF9— Mark Hamill (@HamillHimself) June 27, 2017
While it's tempting to speculate that Hamill appearing at the last major convention before the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi in December might mean that there's going to be an official presence from the film, however it's also worth noting that NYCC is using Hamill's work as the Joker in various Batman animated projects, not Luke Skywalker, to promote his appearance. Anything is possible, but typically the Star Wars presence at NYCC tends to be more focused towards the animated projects, collectibles, and the novels and comics. Regardless, the chance to see Hamill in person is a great opportunity for Star Wars fans.
